Google and Sea Ltd partner to build AI tools across Shopee, Garena and Monee, expanding AI in e-commerce, gaming and financial services.

Google and Singapore-based Sea Ltd have signed a strategic partnership to develop artificial intelligence tools across Sea’s core digital businesses, including the e-commerce platform Shopee, online gaming unit Garena, and financial services arm Monee.
The collaboration formalised on February 19, 2026, will see the companies jointly explore and develop “agentic AI” systems intended to perform complex tasks rather than solely respond to queries, beginning with an AI-powered shopping prototype for Shopee and extending into gaming productivity and payments infrastructure.
Under the terms of the agreement, Google and Sea will work on building an “AI agentic shopping prototype” that can operate across Shopee and Google’s platforms to support product discovery, interaction and completion of transactions. Google’s technology is also expected to be applied within Garena to enhance the efficiency of game development and live operations.
The partnership covers Sea’s fintech unit Monee, which will collaborate with Google on the company’s open-source Agent Payments Protocol (AP2). Sea’s participation will include providing technical feedback to help tailor the protocol for the Southeast Asian digital payments environment and participating in potential pilot deployments of agent-managed payment experiences on both firms’ platforms.
Sea Chairman and Chief Executive Forrest Li said the expanded engagement with Google on AI would help drive innovation in applying the technology at scale and improve accessibility for digitally underserved users in the region, as quoted in the announcement. Sanjay Gupta, President of Google Asia-Pacific, stated that combining Google’s AI capabilities with Sea’s ecosystem could accelerate adoption of advanced AI across the Southeast Asian digital landscape.
Shopee holds a leading position in Southeast Asia’s e-commerce market, accounting for about 52 % of regional online retail in 2024, according to consultancy Momentum Works data reported by Reuters. The initiative follows earlier collaborations between the companies, including Shopee’s participation in the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Programme and Garena’s integration with Google Play’s Free Fire League.
The collaboration is part of a broader movement among global technology firms to expand the commercial application of AI by enabling systems to undertake multi-step tasks such as autonomous shopping actions and workflow management. The tie-up comes as competitors in the region, including Alibaba’s Lazada platform, have also introduced AI models tailored to what they describe as the “agentic AI era.”
The announcement outlines a multifaceted engagement but does not specify definitive product release dates or detailed deployment plans for the AI tools beyond the exploration and prototype phases described by the companies in their statements.
